Shanghai Metro Line 14 Construction Enters Sprint Phase, Expected to Open for Trial Operations by the End of 2021

Shanghai Metro Line 14 has been in the final sprint phase since the early morning of September 28, after obtaining signal safety certification and starting no-load running map test on August 27, 2021.

Shanghai Metro Line 14 is the first high-density, high-capacity, fully automated driverless line of the Shentong Metro Group with 8-segment A-type trains.

As the brain and core system of the metro’s running command, the signalling system deployed on Line 14 is a fully automatic operation one based on the TSTCBTC® 2.0 product developed by Thales SEC Transport (TST), which is designed for high reliability and availability to meet the highest level of automated operation of GoA4.

As Line 14 is a downtown line with a very high forecasted passenger flow, to improve the line’s overall capacity, TST has also solved the key problem affecting the capacity improvement, namely the turn-back capacity, by carrying out a series of design optimizations of the signalling system to fully exploit the potential of it and existing equipment.

At present, TST has been able to achieve a turn-back capacity of 120 seconds or less for 8-segment trains, which lays a solid foundation for subsequent operations and organization adjustments and is fully prepared for increasing capacity.
